We brought home a 10 month old pup one week ago. we have three cats who were calm with our GSD whom we had to put down. Im not sure how to introduce the dogs to the cats properly. We work with them everyday but the pup still has a chase instinct and the cats still have a flight instinct. The pup is responding well to Leerburgs obedience training. She has learned to heel fairly well on our hour long daily hikes. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you, Robert.

Baby gates worked really well with my then-pup and my three cats. Pup was contained to one part of the house, cats could come and go at will, and they all got used to each other safely. Most important, IMO, is that your cats have a place to go without an excited pup nosing around.
Since your pup is a baby, when she looks like she's even thinking about getting interested in the cats redirect her attention with a toy. You can also use this as an opportunity to work on her recall.

Great piece of advice to remember and use though Sarah...

I read the e-book, good stuff! Thats what were doing, slowly introducing in a controlled environment. She's been here a week now and has made good progress. Thanks for the reminder about perhaps acting different outside. What a great forum. Thanks for the help, will keep you posted, Robert.
