I have 5 dogs, and I have 4 8 week old puppies that i am fostering privately. They have need malnourished and neglected. I don't vaccinate my own dogs past their first set, and i am VERY hesitant to vaccinate these puppies, as they are very sickly. That being said, they are well, very sickly. Though in my heart i know vaccines will make this worse, part of me wonders if they would get better if they had their shots.
Also, as i have only had them for about 5 days, what if they have parvo already, and i don't know it? The incubation is 7-10 days, they could have brought it with them.
I'll admit, i didn't isolate them from my other puppy, she is actually their sister from the same litter, but i got her at 3 weeks because there moron owners didn't want to deal with her(she was "whiny", and they took the mom away at 3 weeks anyway.
They are acting fine, eating and all that. I was just curious, what can i do at home, if anything, if these pups get parvo?

If they are sick or incubating a virus and you give them a vaccination it will probably make them sicker.
Start feeding them a little raw beef liver every day to help cleanse their systems and boost their immune system. The beef liver will cause loose dark stools, similar to Parvo, if they eat very much. Yogurt would also be good for them.
I also would not feed them any raw poultry until they are older as 50% of poultry has Campylobacter which can mimic Parvo if their immune system is stressed. If they are healthy the Campy doesn't cause a problem.
If I were you I would get Parvaid (anti-viral) and Vibactra Plus (antibiotic) from http://www.ambertech.com. You can give both of those preventatively. At the first sign of Parvo (lack of appetite, vomiting, bloody diarrhea) increase the Parvaid dose to 4 X the dose every hour until they can keep food and water down, get a bag of lactated ringer with sugar from your vet and give 15 mL/lb/sub Q/day if they are dehydrated (pretty much guaranteed with Parvo). To check for dehydration pick up the skin on the scruff of the neck and slightly twist it, when you release it should return immediately to the neck. If it stays up for any length of time they are dehydrated.
I hope they don't have Parvo, and I think this is the best thing you can do for them.

No good vet in their right mind would vaccinate pups that are not feeling well or sick anyway.
My suggestion is a vet visit to have them checked over. Pups with this kind of start in life are susceptible to all kinds of things.
I commend you for what you are doing.

I agree that you need a vet check, and also to make yourself very knowledgeable about dehydration symptoms (which the vet can help with). And as everyone points out, you are correct that you do not vaccinate a sick dog.

i went out and bought the things to make the tea that site recommends, i will give everyone some to be safe. I also have pedialyte, and know about dehydration, and how to spot it.
I have been feeding these little guys raw chicken. So you are saying if they are already sickly, the chicken would do more harm than good? I'm glad to know that. I feed all my pets raw, and assumed that the they needed good food fast, they had been eating since they were 3 weeks old, some no name food that was 8.99 for a 50lb bag, and human baby formula. I don't know what those people were thinking.
I guess it makes sense that raw foods could cause an overload. I switched their sister over right away, and she flourished, so i thought they would.
I appreciate all your input.

If you don't have the Parvaid on hand and they get sick you may not have 24 hours for some to arrive. If you don't need it for the pups you can use take it yourself for any viruses (colds, flu, etc), as everything is safe for people too.

I think that's right, but I am not an expert on Campy. I don't want any Campy in their gut if they get sick, so as a precaution I have been feeding my young pups beef and deer meat, and canned sardines and mackrel instead of poultry.
