"protective?" (Sorry, mods, I know this isn't a training question, but I wasn't sure where to post this). I've been sitting in the kitchen w/Kodee all a.m., and he just growled and barked at something for the first time. (Our cat was out on the deck). It really surprised me, as he's been around her outdoors, and this is the first time he's ever growled at anything. It wasn't an aggressive ("I wanna eat that cat!") kind of growl, it was more like a warning ("Get off my deck!")kind of growl, followed by an low "woof". I'm pretty certain that's what he was doing (I grew up w/GSD's, so I'm familiar with all their different "types" of sounds, if you know what I mean, but i don't remember at what age they started doing different things).
So anyway my question (after all this rambling) is: Is this a sign that he's probably maturing into more of a protective dog, or is this more likely just a fluke at this age? (He's 4-1/2 mos old).
