If you suspect, or a see, a problem you can do it when they're young. My dog was diagnosed at 4 1/2 months with HD. We took another x-ray at 12 months.
I probably won't do it again unless and until something changes.
I'm with you Mike. Unless if something is obviously wrong, HD diagnosis on a young dog is almost useless. I can attest to it by first hand experience.
If the opportunity arises I will have exrays done just to keep track of things so to speak (besides I like helping pay for that new car the vet just bought), but without some reason I don't have it done as a stand alone visit before 2 years. Before a couple of years age a HD diagnosis doesn't mean much.
I even read it!
Way back in the bad old days. So don't even think about asking for a source.
Our Board certified Radiologist reccomends X-Rays at 6 months, VD hips and elbows, two views of each. OFA can not certify the hips prior to 2 years of age, as they may change. I have seen dogs with X-Rays certified as good that have trouble walking. Partly because of arthritis and over weight. There are no gurantees. I would not purchase a GS that was not certified both Sire and Dam, but that is just me.

Thanks for the replies, The reason i asked is that i have booked 12.5 month Old Fred in at a German Clinic to have his Hips and Elbows xrayed to see if all is well, and i was thinking of phoning them to see if 5.5 month old Goran was old enough to do at the same time,
However your replies have prompted me to hold off of having the Younger Pup done yet
Some of you say that to wait until he is around two years Old,
I would rather Pay for him to be done now at 12.5 months and if they are okay, pay again in a year or so's time to have them double checked
He will be working fairly hard soon on his ScHh work so i want to find out now before he really exerts hinself
Its a day i have not been looking forewards too ever since we bought him home at eight weeks old, I guess i read about the problems they can get then and it stayed with me and i do worry about it, I will be devastated if all is not well, but i need to know.
Clifford, His Parents, G,Parents and G.G parents were all fine. it will be ironic if he is not, But we will not know until the 11th of December when i take him to Germany

You can get your hip rating from the SV at 1, in the USA you must wait until the dog is 2 (not talking about prelims), which I think may be why some suggested you wait until the dog is 2. If the xrays look good and you submit the xrays & SV issues "a" stamp, there really wouldn't be a reason to redo the xray at 2.
