I was out for lunch with some friends yesterday and we were (of course) talking dogs. I like to use Dr. Link in Madison WI for hip and elbows as he does not sedate or anesthetize the dog and he gives a written evaluation after examining the dog. One of the guys said there is a lady vet in Grand Rapids that is as good or better, she does the same type of exam, report and radiographs and is a lot closer for me!
Does anyone know her name or the name of the clinic she works from?? I emailed my friend but don't know how often he checks his mail....
my friend emailed me the info this morning....thought I would pass it along in case anyone else in my part of the country would like to use this vet for hips and elbows. still haven't talked with her yet so I don't know the $....

Thanks for the info! I live about 2 hours from both Grand Rapids and MSU in Lansing. If this vet is better that Mostoski at MSU and doesn't sedate, I'm there! Please let us know when you have a better idea of the cost. I won't have a dog ready for certification for several months yet.
Hi Kali,
I am taking my dog in on March 28th, the cost is 85 dollars for OFA hips plus the mailing fee! I forgot to ask about elbows but I will let you know how it goes. I guess she is really good, my friend that has really nice Rotts uses her for all his x-rays.
Update on Dr. Schmitt in Grand Rapids, MI. She is great.
My friend and I took our dogs up today, got to help position our dogs on the xray table and then got a DETAILED explanation of the radiographs.
Looks like my friend's dog will OFA excellent and my pup's prelims look GOOD. I was very pleased with Dr. Schmitt and her attitude. She even brought out other dog's xrays for me to photograph for an article Karmen Byrd and I are writing on interpeting hip and elbow xrays.
I highly recommend her!!
I forgot to add that all this is done with the dog completely awake, she does not use sedation and is really a master. I work for a vet and know how hard it is to postion a dog properly even when anesthetized.........she did a great job with dogs that are fully awake and not real thrilled about being held down on a table!!
That's great! thanks for the info. Cindy. I live about 45mins. from Grand Rapids. Now I won't have to hunt around for a good Doc when X-ray time comes IF I ever get a puppy that is I look forward to reading that article you gals are working on!
