I have some chicken in the back of my fridge - meant to freeze it and forgot. It's not "outdated" according to the date on the package, but it smells kind of "off." Is this still ok to feed a pup? Will a dog get sick eating meat that's started to go bad? I would definitely not feed it to people, but thought that if it wouldn't hurt anything, Kodee could still have it.
I'm pretty sure Kodee bear will be okay. My dogs have been gnawing on a carcase that's been in the field for 2 months. They love it. I have thrown it in the woods three times, and they keep bringing it back. Refrigerated chicken is still prime meat. Hah!
I've given my dogs meat that has sat in the fridge for a week (and was past its date) and smelled a little off. No ill effects here. I figure if a dog can catch a meal, eat part of it, bury part of it and come back a few days later.. at least my meat was refrigerated! heh.
I'm with everyone else here - unless it's turning bright colors or growing it's fur or feathers back, a slightly "past expiration" meal will most likely have no ill effects whatsoever. I've fed my dog similar stuff (though I try not to make a habit of it ) and he never so much as looks at it any differently than the super fresh stuff...
I'd agree with others. My guy drags pieces of meat that have been outside for days back up and chows down with no ill effects. It grosses me out, but doesn't bother him a bit.
