Petplan also is available in the United States and is the plan I'll most likely go with pending checking on the vaccination rule. I'll also probably set up something with care credit.
I will be interested in the vaccination info, Elaine, if you get a chance.
Having just gone through hell and highwater over my dog's broken canine tooth, anyone know if -caps- are covered as part of 'root canal' coverage, or if it's JUST the root canal itself?

I don't know if this answers your question completely, but the VPI standard plan scheule of benefits shows:
I actually got more than that on my root canal I think around $550 and the cost was around $1000; it was a few years ago so I would have to dig it up. I have the superior plan - even though I only get the rabies and distemper I come out even on the routine care for the yearly blood panel, check up, HW discount, etc.......
I know when I had VPI, I also took out a rider which provided higher limits for cancer. I would suggest people seriously consider adding that if they are going with VPI.
My experiences with them were not so hot, but that was many years ago and from what I understand from others, their claims services and amounts paid have greatly improved.
I had VPI and wasn't crazy about it to be honest, it was a bugger to even get the insurance because Nico is a black and tan mix which automatically registered as rottie or dobie I guess.
The vet had to confirm to them that she was a hound mix and not a rottie or dobie mix in order for me to have the full coverage.
They wouldn't cover any allergy related testing or procedures for her condition. It did however help pay for chiropractic care and x-rays following a hip injury.
We have a high yield savings account that we drop 50 to 100 dollars in most months to have on hand in case of emergencies. But i have thought about looking into insurance again for the young ones that are likely to get hurt.
I called and they said it covered $500 per dog per incident with the normal deductable that you'd be paying on the car anyways. Not a high number but certainly better than nothing and the price was right since I already use them for car insurance.
It seems like VPI does not cover many things, but what do you think of Embrace Insurance? They don't cover basic things, but seems to cover major things such as hip replacement, epilsey, and some forms of cancer. This is a big bonus for my sister who has a border collie that will need to have THR later in the summer. I don't think they cover ACL, I might be wrong.
