Just out of curiosity what do you do if you find if your dog id diognosed with h/d i know if it is real severe then you most likely would have to put the dog down but what if it is minor
also what is the general age that dogs develop h/d or can it happen at any age?
If your dog has HD you have a range of possible actions. Everything from major surgery to replace/repair the joint to drugs that help deal with pain etc.
If your dog has HD a few things you really need to keep on top of are weight and physical conditioning. Your dog should be THIN THIN THIN and should have as much strong muscle as possible.
Less weight, less pounding the joint takes. More muscle, more support for the joint.
You should be taking controlled walks daily, and swimming three or four times a week if possible. All low impact, calm conditioning work.
It is also smart to limit what the dog does, i.e. no jumping fences and the like.
jerry,
I do not have a dog with h/d i was just trying to expand my knowladge about gsd health issues since i've only had my first gsd for about 11 mos. so i really don't mean any specific level just about h/d in general
