Welcome back Jennifer,
Sorry to hear about the crap you had to endure so you could have a nice(?) quiet vacation. Good news on the home/house front though; wonderful tidings for the New Year, no?
I second the vote for some mace or pepper spray, city or country setting. If it's illegal for intown, I'd find out what it takes to be legal, and if being legal isn't an option I'd go and make my own concoction or witches brew. Don't know how it could be refined to not harm but I'd start with ammonia, probably straight and worry about it later. I will not put up with me or my dog being attacked. One dog, as it sounds like you've learned, can be dealt with pretty effectively. Two however as you've also learned is an entirely different picture. They feed off each other's energy. Nuetralize one dog and sometimes the whole situation is defused, if not you only have one dog to deal with, and it sounds like you know how to use that hiking boot with Kung Fu accuracy! Find out whats legal and what isn't, and push the envolope if you have to, no sense walking around in consant worry.........Bad for your health.
How did Teagans' other issues work out this last week?
I am not my brothers dog keeper.

thanks! i missed you guys, i totally lost all my confidence there!
i'm going to buy some bear spray, that i can get easily.
yes, i'm excited/hopeful about the house. right now i'm in a one bedroom (w/den) on the second floor of a house, semi-detached, while i would be moving more to the suburbs, i'd still be 150M from a subway, fully detached, on a corner lot, w/the yard partially fenced (and my brother thinks he can get some lumber for free) w/the top floor of the bungalow to myself - 3 bedrooms! i won't have enough furniture , but there will be tonnes of space for all the animals. there's a tenant in the basement now, and around the time he leaves, my brother will likely move into the basement apartment. so i'm crossing all my fingers and toes! we'd also be close to a very large park luc and i could do some trail running in
teagan's behaviour was pretty good, other than the one issue w/my brother. i kept her pretty close though. my mother feels like they bonded at the trailer, so that's nice, my whole family started the vacation not really sure how much they liked her but left it really thinking she was great.
her hips did alright. i insisted on driving up w/all the dog beds, which in a civic w/3 adults and 2 GSDs was a tad....crowded. but i think teagan enjoyed having a soft bed in her crate (which i also insisted on bringing) and for when she was out.
the first hike we did we turned back, as the snow was quite deep and at 4k she had visibly slowed/tired, and i was worried about how her hips would be, so we got 8k in that day, and she was pretty bouncy the next day, but mostly we kept her to doing around 5k/day w/hikes and walks, but so she wouldn't overuse anything. so it was very low-key, not really pushing anything, but i was nervous about how she'd handle it all. she seems to be doing very well!

Thanks guys!
Honestly, I feel so much better. My brother and mom were like 'you couldn't have done anything else' but like I said, he got to me. I started wondering, 'maybe i did make it worse' which logically I know isn't true, but. Blech.
On a happy front - I got the house!!!!!! (The landlord agreed, though technically they're still going to check my references etc)
Teagan won't have to take stairs anymore! I know her hips aren't that bad now, but looking to the future. And there'll be so much more space for all the species, and the dogs will have a yard we can train in, plus there is a small park that's apparently good for training nearby. I'm just thrilled!

Jeniffer,
Is it to late to file some kind of incident report? This guy needs some kind of mark on his name for further reference in case something like this ever happens again. From the way you described him, it will.

the town the resort was in is so small it appears not to have an animal control (i was checking yesterday) (it's actually the township that is the municipality, not the town, but still).
so i don't know who i could file it with. (weirdly, it was one of the few rural places i've been in where almost all of the dogs were on tie outs or behind good fences....other than the dogs of the guy who owned the resort, that is. errrrgh.)
my mom was saying - the first two days we were up there, another cabin was rented by a couple with a little toddler - that's kind of scary to think of too, with loose aggressive dogs wandering around.
