TOday I was talking with someone who is in the market for a puppy and had gone to a breeder to look at Beagle pups. He said the kennel was really neat and clean and the people seemed to generally care for the dogs, and a comment he made caused a question to arise in my heart, and I hope I don't seem too dumb in asking it. He said at this kennel the breeder bred many kinds of dogs, pure bred labradors to labradors and labradors to poodles, beagles to other dogs. here is my question. If you have an AKC female.. say labradore and you bred her to a poodle would that ruin the labrador for future breeding with another AKC labrador. I am sorry, I do not know how to phrase what I am asking. Would that ruin her pure blood, blood line?
I had heard a comment from people stating that it would ruin the purebred female, and there would be a question as to the purity of her future pups.that true or an old wives tale?
Thanks, Hope this falls under general dog conversation,
The breeder is a puppymill or at the very least a backyard breeder. I hope this person does not purchase a puppy from this person.
But, breeding one purebred, say a Lab to another purepred, say a poodle, does not ruin either dog for future breeding to one of it's own breed. Each litter is totally separate. This would be like saying that, for example, if you had a child with say a Frenchman, it would "ruin you" from having a child by, say, an American man.
In my opinion this is a breeder I'd stay away from. It is always a red flag to me when a breeder breeds more than one or two breeds of dogs and I'm also not a big fan of the designer dog craze (labradoodle, puggle etc.).
But the answer is no. If you have an AKC Lab dog and bred it to a poodle bitch one week and a lab bitch one week. The the Poodle's pups would not be registrable but the Labs would certainly be able to fully register.
