A friend I work with has two dogs (lab and weimeraner) He takes his dogs to dog parks and also has a family with many dogs that get together. He seems to brag that the dogs get into fights all the time and are very dominant (at the park and at home) and when one gets into it the other comes and it becomes two no one so they always seem to win(there is now winner in a dog fight) Anyway my Zeus (1 year old GSD) is not very dog friendly and is something I am working on (training, leadership ect) My friend says bring him to meet my dogs then says things like " hopefully they get into a altercation so you can see how my dogs fight" "let them meet and what happens happens" "all your dog needs is a good beat down from some other dogs" Needles to say his dogs will never see mine and to top it off he still doesn't understand why I don't hit my dog to correct him like he does. Sometimes I don't know how to respond to such stupidity???
P.S. From what I can tell my 1 year old is better behaved and more stable then his 6 and 8 year olds I feel for his dogs.

There is no logic to this. It is pure stupidity as a dog owner for him to allow his dogs to behave like this.
I would steer clear of introducing your dog to his, which it sounds like you are doing.
My feeling is, your friend would end up on Ed's "Dumb and Dumber" list of articles or his "Emails that make me Mad" section.
If he has been doing this for as long as he has had these dogs, there is probably no hope for him or his poor dogs.
It is unfortunate that he is allowed to have dogs. This is one type of person that I would agree should not own animals.
I congratulate you for having a well behaved youngster.
And, the way I would respond to his offers would be to tell the truth, no matter if it upsets him or not. Maybe no one has told him how idiotic his way of keeping dogs is.
Who knows, maybe it will make him think about it.

I have no idea what is wrong w/people. I kept a beautiful, sweet, one-yr old female Rottie for a parents for a while before re-homing her. I got her spayed, microchipped, and ran an ad "free to a very good home..." etc. More idiots called than I could believe, looking for a "mean" (many of them actually used this word) watch dog. Believe me, when people came to our house, they were not gonna be breakin' in w/her out there barking, even though she was sweet. I told one guy that she was really friendly to everyone, and he said "I can take care of that." WTH??? Anyway, I found the perfect guy (older, semi-retired, lived alone and was very active) who had owned Rotties before and was looking for a sweet Rottie for a companion, as he had lost his last Rottie to cancer in old age. But it was hard to find the right person. It seemed like people just wanted a Rottie to intimidate people as a status symbol and nothing else. And it was astonishing to me how many people seemed to want a dog that would basically be aggressive towards others.
Why this guy likes his dogs to fight is beyond me. It sounds like he thinks it's cool to have dogs that will fight - like they elevate his status as a "real man" b/c they are aggressive or something. One day he'll be sorry when they end up mauled or dead. Poor dogs...I would absolutely not introduce my dogs (or humans for that matter) to this guy...
Since you work together, maybe you can e-mail him the link to Leerburg or something. Or print off some articles and just casually mention that you thought he might be interested in them since he owns dogs....other than that, I can't think of anything to say, other than "Dude, what the hell is your problem?" Good luck!

Thanks for the replies, He doesn't push the dogs into fighting but he seems to get some kind of ego boost from their altercations. I've met the dogs and its a shame because they are actually good dogs and I bet could be highly trainable if the time was put into them. They are also used for hunting and are very good at that as well. Our dogs will not be meeting and I would only take Zeus into a situation that I had complete control over. His training is going well and I wouldn't do anything to set him back just to fullfil a cluless persons needs. Its a shame some dogs don't get the benefit of good balanced owners and training.

Hi I'm Georgio. I'm new. All I do is training for dog rescues here in NYC. You have no idea how many "owner surrenders" we get in where the owners write, " Dog refuses to bite" "too friendly". Its Insane.
Further, its been my experience that many people who "adopt" the dogs I post, want to do so to re-sell the dogs for lab testing. these establishments pay an estimate of $200-$300 per dog. So This is why my Adoption fee for most people is $250 for a rescues animal. It assures me that there is no profit to be made on the dog, and I always have them sign a contract allowing me to retrieve the dog for up to a year.
This knocks out many good potential homes I'm sure, yet its necessary with the amount of geniuses out there like this guy
I agree with the poster, be careful calling this person a friend. If he treats his animals like this, imagine his respect for you.

Hello, I'm new to the forum. This subject raises the question, what action should the owner of the dog that's being attacked( or as that jerk said "let them fight"). This is why I am very careful where I walk my male GSD (he is dog aggressive and we are working on this with the much appreciated Ed Frawley's DD DVD,DD collar and our new 2 dog e-collar-coming along very well). I certainly will not put up with my 2 beautiful dogs getting hurt because someone else can't or won't control their dog! There is some new stronger pepper spray out now with two shots in it,can hit 10 feet away rather forcefully.
What are some thoughts on this??? Annette
