I'm sure at some point it will be a disaster if they haven't already retired the dog with that video hitting the internet. Of course, it could also be a hoax. I haven't checked snopes on it yet.
And yes, the bird is young (only a few months old) so he doesn't know he should be afraid of dogs. We had Remi laying there for a good 5 minutes...I wouldn't trust him without us being there, but it's a good exercise for him in "leave it".
Maybe it would be a good idea to find out a little more about the dog before making fun of it
I can't be sure, but I could've sworn reading what that police dog's handler had to say about it. Apparently the dog was still very young and new to the work and simply got confused. Pluto (the k9) went on to have a fine career as a patrol dog from what I remember.
Wish I could remember the handler's name or where I read that (I'll look and post it if I can find it again), but I remember being a little surprised when reading of other police handlers commenting that some of their dogs (even the very good ones) also underwent some confusion on their first "real" bites and that it took a few tries before they figured it out.
Just saying... might not be fair to ridicule the handler and his dog without knowing the whole story.
A sport dog or working dog is never a sure thing they all have their "moments" but then again sometimes we should look at their handlers........
I went for my Schutzhund one again and passed BUT my dog looked horrible and my scores were low passing, and I went home gave my dog a big hug and a big bone and looked at myself and said "you sucked"
Oh and I didn't mean that anyone was making fun of the dog/handler on this particular thread.
I just remember the way the discussion went last time someone posted that video on this forum. Just thought I'd mention the context of the situation so that we don't get a repeat of THAT line of comments again

I realized for once that I missed nothing by going out on such a hectic night. That running around, paying an entrance fee, then having 50 sweaty people spill things on me all night,
