i know it is possible and recommended to give diatomacious earth for worms, but how?
is there a pet specific brand, because the kind i got says it doesn't work if the powder gets wet. And well, doggy insides are wet...
it isn't the pool kind, it's the kind for bugs and such.
mallory; I have a pet health book and they say Diatomaceous earth is a nontixic, safe substance made from crushed fossils of freshwater organisms and marine life. It gives this table for feeding it to your pets. If you can feed it to your pets, it is ok to be wet from inside their stomach. small dogs up 14lbs. 1 tsp with food. medium dog 15-34 lbs 2 tsp with food. Large dog 35-84lb. 1 Tbs with food, giant dog 85+ 1-1/2 Tbs with food.
It also says garlic helps with the problem of worms as well by dissolving excess mucous accumulations in the intestinal tract.
The worms love the mucous and flourish in it, when the garlic purifies the intestinal tract, it makes a place worms do not like to live. There is a caution here, excessive garlic can cause anemia. HEre is the recommended dose for using garlic: small dog or cat- up to 14 lbs.= 1/2 clove fresh garlice per meal, or 1/2 capsule aged garlic supplement two times per day. medium 14-34lbs 1 fresh glove per meal or 1 capsule aged garlic supplement three times per day. Large and giant breds 35-85lbs+ 2 closves fresh garlic per meal or 2 capsules garlic suppliment tow times per day.
They recommend you avoid feeling your animal any mucous-producing foods such as milk, cheese, or even yogurt.
Thats all the info I have. Hope it helps.
God bless you
i think i wasn't clear, i know how and why it works, i was curious about the don't get it wet or it wont work label....
thanks for the link, i didn't know leerburg sold it here.
i got a huge bag because i was having a spider problem, and it said not to get wet, but i knew it was safe for pet use, and you know, doggy guts can be rather moist places.
i will order some from here, but what about getting it wet, or is the back of the bag just wrong?
