On dog whisperer last night, the segment with the GSD. When the dog was at the training class the instructor was using a stick with a string and a toy attached to the end with the dog. Anyone where to get something like that, I didn't see any here. Thought it looked pretty fun for the dog. Zeus would go nuts for that toy.

Do you have an Orbee ball?
You can use a horse whip in the same fashion, you just tie the toy to the end of it. The handle makes it a little easier to work for the dog (for me anyway) or you can tie the Orbee on a longer piece of rope.
And LB sells a leather bite rag under their Dog Training Equipment category.

Ah I had forgotten about the bite rag here at Leerburg, my bad! I buy leather and furs for projects so I get massive amounts of really thick stuff like moose leather. The chamois they used in the show wouldn't last 10 seconds at my house!
Thanks, no I don't have a orbee yet. I can try to make what he was using. I missed the beginning of what he was doing and just caught the toy, anyone know what he was using that toy for?, I know he mentioned the dogs prey drive (zeus' is very high also) I liked some of what they were doing with the dogs.

I use mine as a prey drive toy and also to build prey drive and work on possession and tug.
If you watch the videos that Cindy has posted in various threads, they have wonderful footage of Michael Ellis using the bite rag with Rush.

Yeah. A horse lunge whip is great (and only around $15!) and you can tie pretty much anything to the end. We started with a small Kong tied to the whip, Macy had enough drive that she didn't need the life like fluttering of a rag or "squirrel" -- if it's moving right, fast, and you're encouraging, just about any object will stimulate prey.
it's called a flirt pole, and they are pretty easy to make. A horse whip works, as does a thin flexible pvc pipe with a line run through it, or for smaller toy dogs and puppies, a nice sized stick with some toy on a rope on the end.
I am sure you could actually but a flirt pole, but a horse whip would be cheaper, and some people equate flirt poles with training for dogfighting, which isn't true, but you can't change how people think. So, depending on what kind of neighbors you have, and how peta-ish they are, just be careful.
