Has anybody had any experience with a puppy by/out of a 'noch zugelassen' rated parent/s? I'm curious as to how much higher the HD risk is, and whether these pups have weaker hips as a result. Having looked through the pedigreedatabase site, I was quite surprised to see a number of studs (both show and working) with this rating.
Also, anyone know what 'zuerkannt' means in relation to german hip ratings?
Thanks heaps!
Angelica, if the dogs you looked at were bred in germany you shuld (using the same web site actually) be able to get the ZW rating for the dogs. The ZW is a figure which indicates how likely the dog is to produce progeny with HD. The ZW essentially has an index of 100 - a dog with a score of say 89 would be considered less likely to produce hip problems, a dog with a score of say 120, more so. A dog's ZW can change over time, it could go up or down depending on the quality of the progency it produces. It's not a perfect measure of course, but it may be some guide. It's important to look at the combination of dog x bitch for any future progeny. For instance putting a dog rated 'noch zugelassen' to a bitch rated the same probably wouldn't give you great hips - but putting such a dog to a bitch with better hips might give better results. Zuerkannt translated means something like "awarded" - whether this is meant to signify good hips I'm not too sure. If you read what Ed has to say on HD you'll realise you can never get rid of it completely - the best thing to do as a future purchaser of a pup is to do your homework and get a guarantee of replacement should your dog be crippled by hip or elbow displasia. PS - which dogs were you looking at - it would be interesting to you and me if we have any progeny from these dogs here in Australia.
Thanks for clearing that up dave, it seems the war on HD can never be won...all you can do is buy from a responsible breeder, have a guarentee & raise the pup properly. I wasn't aware of how the ZW works - is that the 'HD Zuchtwert' link? I've tried clicking it for a few dogs but no results came up.
The dogs i was surprised to discover being rated 'noch zugelassen' include:
- Xando von Karthago SchH3 ( V-BSP ) FH
- Quast vom Haus Dabbert SchH3/IPO3 Kkl 1
- Jeck vom Noricum SchH3/FH Kkl 1 (Show dog, but considering how widely he was used and in how many show pedigrees he features in, including my dog's, interesting that according to his rating he is midly displaysic)
There was a few more but I cant remember off the top of my head. One more thing - anybody know what 'ausland' means? ie in the context below.
Ausland or a6 means that the dogs hips were done in a foreing country which is recognized by the SV
for instance Belgium, one of my females has a normal in her pedigree but shows as a6 in the genetics
That s something to take into consideration so a 6 can be a normal ,fast normal and noch zugelassen.
As far as your dog ,i think she was xrayed in Denmark ,she has actually 15 puppys in the geneticrecords 3x a normal 2 x a fast normal 1 x a Ausland
Her actual ZW is 95
bye Jutta
Thanks Jutta, that makes sense to me now! Sorry to clear something up though, Lya isnt my dog, she is just an example I used <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
