He doesn't have to heel ALL the time, he just has to heel perfectly until you tell him he doesn't. I heel mine for a while, and if they're perfect, I release them with "free." If they being jack@$$e$, then they have to heel a while longer. I didn't mean to imply that he has to heel all the time. You are correct, it's a bit more difficult to get a good workout in a heel unless you feel like running yourself!
Thanks for the help. I do try to structure his beahviour as much as possible.
I new i had dog on dog behaviour probs as soon as i started socialization from the way he kept getting told off. I thought it would teach him manners.
Now when he gos to the kennels for the day (only when im away for the weekend, rarely) he is excersice alone. I am worried his dominace with other dogs will result in a bad situation so i am keeping away from other dogs.
My gun dogs run and live together but show no interest in each other or other dogs on the field.
My girlfiend who lives with me and has since we got him takes him for walks with another male old male rott who tolerates him. I have not been there but she says they have a quick play then just wander through the fields together sniffing etc but he recalls to her perfect and does not bother with Harry if she is heeling him etc. Wierd. Also as he is 15months and coming into adulthood are the chances that Harry will no longer tolerate his puppy dominace attempts? Chance of a fight here i think.
So should i ask her to stop these walks, once every two weeks, girly gossip sessions hence ive never attended.
P.s.
i would just like to say i just heard about Cajun on the other thread, yet Jennifer still finds the time to help others such as me with her expertise. im a great beliver in do unto othes/ what gos around comes around. If any one deserves a happy ending its her. Thanks
