Yeah Connie, he's getting 8000-9000 per day of fish oil per day of the capsules. I know, 4 or 5 capsules per meal is quite a bit, but he'll eat anything you put in the bowl so it's no hassel. But I am switching to the liquid form you can just pump into the bowl, but it's not here yet. I've been giving 400 IU per day of E.
He's the only pet in the house, Julie - so the allergy to cats doesn't really apply. Good thought, though. I have considered the benadryl, but haven't given him any yet. The itching is pronounced in the morning hours.

This may be a clue. It's not definite, of course, but my allergic dogs with inhalant allergies (including one whose intradermal testing, finally, indicated several grasses and pollens, among other things) were itchiest when the sun came up and the early-morning breeze stirred up that stuff.
I have not had success with Benadryl, but I have had with Hydroxyzine.
