My 9 week old working GSD is doing great!
But should I be concerned when I have him out in the yard about the amount of grass he eats? My vet says its ok as long as the grass is not treated with chemicals.
Someone suggested that I spray a patch with bitter apple and let him snack away. Help?
Thanks, Vince . . .
Sorry it took me awhile, I've been preoccupied these days.
If the vet isn't worried, I dunno that I would be. Tho I would take a look at his diet. I've noticed that w/working line GSDs it does not take much for them to p/u a compulsive type habit, like poop eating, grass grazing, etc. They need a lot of mental stimulation. I don't think punishment will work b/c it just draws more attention to the behavior and if it is a becoming a compulsion, that will make it worse. Get him busy when he's outside, do some rag play, teach him a really happy, upbeat recall, keep him focused on toys/you instead of grazing. At 9 wks, a lot of pups are growing so fast that they are always hungry and eating everything. I don't like that kind of stuff becoming a habit tho.
(Not a huge problem here in the hi desert :P)
