Hello all,
I have a 15 month old GSD who broke his lower k9 this weekend by chewing on his crate. I am wanting to get a muzzle to help prevent any further damage but not sure what size to get. His length is 3.5 inches with a diameter of 10 inches... My first question is the jafco a good choice? He will be in the muzzle around 4 hours a day. Also if the jafco is appropriate should I go with size 3 or 4? Thanks for any info.
Well, while I don't feel super comfortable with a muzzled dog in a crate, I really like the wire basket muzzle for long term wear. It is comfrotable and light weight, but most of all is very easy to breath in. I have both a wire and two Jafco's (one black and one clear.)
An issue that I can foresee is that with the corners; a driven dog could really work at the plastic muzzle and get it to the point that it could be chewed on. Not likely if it is tight enough, but for long term use... A wire muzzle can't be chewed up.
But the ventalation can't be beat in the wire muzzle.
I am so sorry about your pup breaking a tooth. That must have been scary and frustrating at the same time!
For a wire, I would go with a German Shep med or large, and for the Jafco, size 4. Check this out for muzzle fitting if you have not yet... And the girls in the office are great at helping if you need more.
