I didn't see "human grade" or a commitment to not use 4D meats. (Let me know if I missed it.)
Please enlighten me - what is 4D meats?
Hi Julie ~ I didn't know what 4D meat was either I looked it up and this is what I found :
What is 4D Meat
4D meats are derived from animals that were dead before slaughter. Pet food material coming from rendering factories may contain 4D meat.

The 4 D's stand for animals, primarily cattle and horses, that are dead, dying, diseased or down (disabled) at slaughter.
Don't know if anyone addressed this, but 13% protein doesn't sound like enough. So IMO the food mentioned is not something I would feed on a regular basis. Variety is needed in order to get more protein into the dog.

Well, not addressing this particular food at all, but just saying that we don't want to try to compare kibble percents with wet food percents (by weight) because fresh (or undried) food has a lot of heavy water in it.
Before comparing, say, raw or canned to kibble, they have to be converted to equivalents (dry matter basis, for example).
YAY ~~~ I finally was able to buy the backs yesterday. They were $26.00 for 40lbs which ends up being 65 cents per pound. Maybe a little pricey considering chx quarter are on sale for 69 cents a pound ALL THE TIME.. But, they will hold me over for a while and I'll keep looking around for a better price.
Now about the K-9 kravings which is the raw food that this guy makes/sells there on the spot and tried to sell to me.
Very Expensive !!!
He did give me 10lbs to try out for free. There are 5 different varieties and he gave me 2 of each kind. I asked him how much it sells for -
The chx or turkey sells for $45.00 for 30lbs (75cents per pound)
The beef blends are $60.00 for 30lbs ($2.00 per pound)
The buffalo blends sell for $$$$70 for for 30lbs ~ That is $2.33 PER POUND ) WOW !!! Very Expensive !
Honestly, I would not be able to afford to feed my dog at these prices.
Last night, I opened up one of the beef blends that he gave me and just took about a spoonful and gave it to my dog. He wouldn't eat it. I thought maybe it was jsut hte beef that he didn't like so I opened up a chx and he turned his nose up at that too. I am glad that I didn't buy this stuff.......
Okay, I know this is not related to this thread but I'm gonna tell you anyway b/c it has to do with GSD's. When I walked in this place to buy the backs, the guy was on the phone with a lady who has purchased his food and would not eat it. I heard him telling her not to gie the dog anymore tonight and possibly tomorrow morning either until he gets all the food out of him..
When he got off the phone he was telling me that the lady on the phone had a 9 week old GSD and she had fed it 2LBS of food, in one feeding and she was wondering why her dog would not eat... He said that whichever breeder the lady got her GSD from told her that her puppy should be eating 2lbs of food per day.
That is more then my dog eats and he is 48lbs...... I don't know how much a 9 week old GSD weighs but that seem like way too much food.....
