I was wondering if dogs need a "warm up" before they do any vigorous exercise (the way people do?) Not so much if they've been hanging out loose in the house or whatever, but what if they were crated immediately prior to going outside to play? Is it ok for them to go from crate to playing hard (like chasing ball, playing frisbee, etc, not just going for a walk)?

Yes. As with humans, it's not always possible, but it is always desirable.
