We have a showline in our Club but although he goes through the Process of working, and does all three phases, it is no where the same Quality as a Working Line certainly not in protection. Plus under the German guide lines for Breeding you need to get a W Line into the shows once or twice only and all you need is a Good pass, It is very unlikely a working line will come out best among the Show dogs and that is not really needed anyway just a 'Good' is enough
Young Fred' will be going to one such show soon

Depending on what your intentions are for the dog, I am always out to save a dog before purchasing one. why not go and check the local GS or Mel rescue. Cali is peppered with them. Who knows you may unearth a superior dog who bloodline would have gone unnoticed otherwise. Don't knock rescues till you experience them.
If its a competition dog your wanting and anything less then perfect everything wont do? I say buy one from Ed. I happen to like the methods used here. I trust Cindy and I like the natural methods instilled in their breeding and rearing and early stage work.
Actually we would love to buy one from Ed but he's not going to have any litters this year and I think he said he didn't know if they would next year. We had planned on getting one this year and don't know when he would have another litter.
And we are looking at GS shelters also. Are options are completely open, although we are leaning towards purchasing a puppy through a breeder. We're novice trainers and we want the best possible chance of not screwing up the dog. Also the shelters say its rare for them to have 8 week pups although it happens. So who knows. We just missed a litter that they had. But we weren't ready. Haven't watched Ed's videos enough.

Thanks Mary I have looked and I saw the puppies bu we're not quite ready to bring a puppy into our home now. We were thinking April, May. And it killed us to see they had puppies now. Hopefully when we're ready in April or May they will have some puppies but we also don't want to close the door to getting a puppy from a breeder. Thus, the reason why we want to have all the information so we can make the best possible decision for our family.
Also we don't have the knowledge or experience to pick out a puppy and we know that if we find the right breeder they will help us make the right decision. Someone on this thread suggested we bring someone to the shelter who has experience but we don't know anyone.
I just love this board! For you Mary to take the time to look at shelters for me is very sweet. Again thanks.
