Well, print out the recipe and have it in the kitchen when you do it. :-)
I was amazed when I came across it under "microwave jerky" on the internet. It was meant for people, so it had seasonings and stuff, but the basic recipe is about a 6-minute deal: two to slice or dice and four* to microwave.
mine go ape sh*t over some freeze dried beef liver. I like it because i can put a few big pieces in my pocket, and they will naturally break apart-and give me lots of little treats without me having to take time to break them apart.
But then too-my dogs will eat absolutely anything.....
Bart in particular loves carrots as treats.
for those who put treats in pockets like me(don't have/can't afford treat pouch).....
i have lost more pairs of pants due to me being dumb and not supervising my dogs as they decide there are still some crumbs in my pockets....
it only happens with the beef liver treats-no others, btu they have ripped apart and eaten pants and pockets before.
now i pick up my clothes, and don't let them out of my site....
is one of my favorite purchases. The treats can be in back, too, out of sight of the dog.
I have it hanging by the door so I'm more likely to grab it for a walk and turn part of it into a lil training session. That way we aren't always doing training in the same place (the yard, the kitchen....).
I have been making some treats that my dogs and pups really like.
12-14oz canned fish not drained(Tuna, salmon, mackeral)
2 eggs with shell(I like to toss them in the blender to pulverize the shells)
1 to 1.5 cups flour(rice flour, potato flour, wheat flour...)
1 Tbsp. garlic powder
Liquify the fish in a blender or food processor. Mix in the rest of the ingredients. The consistency is like cake batter. Pour it onto a greased baking sheet(I used a silpat) and spread evenly. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes. Cool for a bit and cut into desired size. Optionally you can sprinkle parmesan cheese on before cooking.
The final product holds its shape really well and is soft like play dough. Stores well in the freezer.
Now I am going to go make some of that chicken jerky.
99 cents
These arent going to last as long, but until you can get a good pouch they'll do. You can get them at any Home Depot. One downside is anything oily or greasy gets on the front of your pants.
My dogs love all the ones we find here on this site, but they really love the homemade treats. I make little chicken balls with grated carrots, little bit of garlic and some wheat jerm. They love those! ANd even though I don't like to make these, they smell up the house, they love my bowser brownies (liver, garlic, grated carrot, chopped parsley). They bake up to look just like brownies and you cut them to size. They love them, You have to freeze the portion you do not use, but they go crazy over them. I gave some to my friends dog and now whenever I go over he runs to me and expects to get treats!!Ha!
They especially like cut up ham, little pieces of bacon, left over cut up cooked chicken breast. Oh, I also make a peanut butter treat, they really love those too!
I would love to have more biscut treat receips (can't spell today). Their all time favorite ones that you buy are what we get here at leerburg. THey love the little tiny treats, so do I for training. we go through mounds of treats right now. I would be interested to know about how many treats you guys go through. I sometimes think maybe I give them too many. but with two dogs and both young and training them, they go quickly.
Hope this helps you with the type of treats I use. I am blessed, my dogs are not picky. Cody tries to eat rocks, so you can see treats no matter what kind are not a problem for him.
May God bless you
