I like the Raw Meaty Bones by Lonsdale. I have all have all the Barf books also. They contain a lot of information that is nice to have as a resource, but in general I think these books make raw feeding harder than it really is.
Hi Connie,
No, my dog is not on fish oil or vitamin e. Our vet has her on a glucosamine supplement Synovi G3 to see if that will help her. If that doesn't work (which it does not seem to), the vet wants to x-ray her under full sedation since my dog acted aggressively when the vet touched the ouchy parts. I'm not sure what you mean by OA, but the dog is only 4 and is the one in my sig. pic.
I purchased Raw Dog Food by Carina Beth McDonald ( sold here on this site ) This book is basically the authors experience, the problems that she encountered and her trials and errors of raw feeding over the years. I read it twice and refer back to it from time to time. Very easy reading and easy to follow.
Being a new raw feeder, it answered a lot of questions that I had..
It talks about the myths of feeding raw; Such as bacteria concerns, feeding bones, balance, harm to teeth and expense. It really cleared up some mis-conceptions that I has heard.
It gives you a list of materials/ingredients. Tells you what types of meat to feed and why you should feed it. There is even a recipe for veggie glop.
Supplements, she talks about what and whys of giving supplements.
How to customize a diet for your specific dog (old/yound overweight/underweight big dogs/small dogs)
There is even a chapter dedicated to POOP !!!
Basic Q&A section, Sample menus and a list of resources.
Between the book, a ton of internet research and this site, I feel as though I am becoming a expert on my dogs health & nutrition (which is something I never thought about before )...

OA = osteoarthritis ... non-systemic degenerative arthritis (not, for example, rheumatoid arthritis)
I would have the dog on fish oil too, with the glucosamine. They are not counter-productive. And fish oil should be given with extra E because the system uses E in processing oil supplements.
You'll find dozens of good threads in the "all natural feeding" section here about fish oil and E.
I don't want to hijack a thread about books, so ... back to good raw feeding books, and may I add that Shannon's review of the McDonald book (another easy-reading, jump-right-in book) is spot on.
Shannon, I just checked out your link and was amazed that it was a link to the actual text of the book rather than a link to a place where I could buy the book. Cool! I ordered Work Wonders off eBay since Leerburg does not stock it. Looks like I get a sneak peek through your link! Thanks a bunch!
