Are Chicken Giblets and hearts considered rich like other organ meats such as liver? I looked for chicken backs and necks at my local Winco, and asked the butcher, but they don't have any. They have turkey necks, but they were out of them. I was able to find Knuckle bones and I gave her one last week for an non-consumable bone.
What about tripe?
She is so little. I have given her lean hamburger and chicken wings with most of the skin cut off. She looooooved the chicken hearts. But I didn't want to give her too much.
I have heard people on this board say not to give veggies and meats at the same meal. With Honest Kitchen (which is most of my veggie source) I serve it with the hamburger, and a little yogurt. I have been giving her a chicken neck for her last meal of the day. As I said, she is only 7.2 lbs.
Thanks in advance,

Liver is probably the richer organ meat, and heart is kind of a muscle meat. Chicken liver is a good organ meat -- just start very slowly if you are concerned about diarrhea, and limit it (organ meat) to 5-10% of the diet.
I have no trouble with feeding raw meat and low-cellulose, non-root (no starch) produce. And THK is nicely processed when you rehydrate it, since it's slivered and dehydrated.
Are you giving a THK recipe (such as Force or Embark) that is already balanced with meat, or are you giving the one with no meat? That would be very different and might change some suggestions.
So please post back about that. Then we will know what we're discussing.
Currently I am using the Embark. But since DG has taken so well to raw meat I plan on switching to the one with no meat when she finishes this bag. But that will be quite some time as little as she is.
DG loves the Embark too-Wayyyy better then the Kibble she was brought home on. In fact I was softening the kibble up to the point that it was the consistency of canned dog food any way.

Thanks,
She's smart! I think THK is an excellent product, and this is from someone who is not fond of most commercial dog foods. I keep it on hand for travel, etc. I would stick with the meat versions, personally. They are formulated for adding your own RMBs, etc., but are also complete as is, in case you ever have no meat on hand. And dogs don't need a lot of produce.
That's strictly MHO. I don't see enough of a price difference to justify buying the meatless version.
BTW, did you know that Leerburg ships THK? There isn't a store near me that stocks it, and I get mine from LB because I found that the shipping was faster and the freight a little lower than the THK site.

I hadn't thought of that-I'll keep doing what I have been doing then. It is actually much easier then I thought it would be with the info on the site AND the info at THK. I have emailed them a couple of times too with questions and they have been very helpful. The lady that responded to me has two Bostons herself and sent me pics My local Pet store carries THC. And DG's favorite employee even trims her nails for her!
Rich muscle or organ meat-Either way, she had a bit of diarrhea this morning. I guess I will freeze the rest of the pack and only give her one or two next time. Next time being when her bm's are firm again.
King of the Hill and pup watchin' the video are cuties too!
