I dont think you ever in any circumstances have to be cruel.
Instead you have to be a fair, firm and consistent pack leader.

To me cruelty means witholding basic needs and treating the dog unkindly with mean behavior,correcting for things he does not understand,hitting smacking or any other sort of undue roughness, expectations that aren't clear and lack of understanding of the Canine psyche.

Im also not sure I would put all the collars on him at once,

that wouldnt be an effective or clear training method in my opinion, if he is getting corrections from several different collar sources in one session or even one day he will not know what to expect which likely could increase aggression and add anxiety to the mix.

I would start with the prong and see how that goes before moving on to the Ecollar or dominant dog collar.
Especially since the prong is somewhat less prone to user error and true damaging of the dog either physically or mentally/emotionally.


I dont know if he knows any obedience type behaviors, but I would be reinforcing things like sit, down, stay etc using a clicker or other marker and rewards right along with the new pack structure you are implementing.

In my opinion Corrections with the prong or the other collars should be for pack structure issues and aggression, and as you are working through the dominance and aggression issue be re-starting at the begining with obedience and learned commands.
That way he is learning to listen under the new conditions of your relationship while not being over corrected in the beginning.

Having short motivational, or operant conditioning sessions throughout the day helps tremendously with bonding, builds healthy self confidence (rather than pushy dominance) and at the same time teaches the dog you want certain behaviors from him.

He will learn that if he delivers good things happen exactly as he expects them. This can go a long way towards motivating him to "work" for you.

during these sessions there should be no corrections, only withholding of the marker and reward if he doesnt do what you ask.

I wouldnt be using them all at once.

a prong most of the time.A dominance collar to control him around people and other dogs, as god only noes i need it and a prong wont help him in that situation but elivate aggression and a vibration collar when he is stailking an animal/person and cant get his attention or as a recall when off lead.

I rarely use vibration collar for corrections.
