Well I've been reading and can't find the answer yet so thought I'd ask (my eyes are getting tired :crazy The tripe you can buy at the store must not be the same as the green tripe that is fed to dogs? There is some tripe at a store in town here that is in the frozen section and its sold in a block but it doesnt say green tripe, does it have to say green tripe? I just always got my eyes and ears open for different things to add to the dogs raw diet.
Nope, not the same. All the 'green' stuff, the partially-digested plant matter has been washed and bleached out.
If you want the real tripe, find a local place that does slaughtering for the local farmers. This is the place where you take your steer in and a week later it comes back in little, white packages.
The tripe is considered ofal and is usually discarded. The butcher may well be happy to give you a few stomaches. Each one will weigh about 20-30# each. Then you can grind or cut it up to your satisfaction. Last stomachs I got cost about $3 each.

Kathy,
If you can't find a slaughterhouse willing to unload their tripe there are 2 places in Omaha that are Bravo distributors. Bravo sells frozen green tripe for animals ( but it's probably more expensive than what you could get locally):
If you have difficulties sourcing out fresh green tripe you probably could find tinned ones at certain pet stores. I bought 2 tins of Tripett tripe for my pup, but I cannot comment on them yet since I haven't fed it yet.
Also groccery store tripe comes bleached. I doubt if they would have ones with stomach contents still intact laying next to your apple-smoked bacon and pork ribs.
