I was talking to a breeder who I really like and telling the breeder that we didn't want a high drive GSD because it would be a house pet. If I say I want a low drive GSD does that mean I'll get a couch potato or is that impossible with a GSD? Does a low drive GSD means he lacks self confidence and has weak nerves?

No, drives have nothing to do with the confidence level or nerves of the dog except to say that a high drive can be useful in overcoming fear issues and/or to increase concentration and confidence around distracting environments or situations. But no, to say "low drive" is NOT the same thing as saying "weak nerved" or "fearful."
I think you might want to rephrase your wording to the breeder...I think you're looking to avoid a dog with a high *prey* drive, right? Or defense or fight drive? A high pack drive or food drive on the other hand, might be just what you're looking for. Remember, if you have a dog with no drives then you have a dog that is really difficult to motivate for even basic training. And frankly, where's the fun in a dog with no drives? Especially in a GSD?
