I have a two year old GSD who goes nuts when I apply frontline. He would never bite at me under any circumstances, but when applying frontline he comes close. I'm ready to order a muzzle just for this use. But I don't want to be doing something painful or bad to him -- I have had three previous German Shepherds and have another onw, and never had this pahhen with any other dog. Has anyone heard of dogs having a reaction to frontline? Any other suggestions? Thanks -- Michael Reis

What does the site look like after you apply it? Redness, irritation? Does he bite or scratch at the area? Tighten up or move away if the area is touched after application?
I am not sure I would continue using the product if the reaction you get is what you are describing. There are holistic alternatives that are safe and effective for dogs.

My ankle biter developed scabs at the spots where I applied frontline. It happened both times I used it on her.
My cats run, foam at the mouth and struggle when I use frontline on them. They act like it hurts them. For cats, mine are usually very docile and easy to medicate, so this is an extreme reaction for them.
My other dogs don't seem to mind or have a problem with frontline.
None of the animals have had any reactions to advantage.

For some dogs it's a painful experience. My parents have a spaniel I can't use any of the external flea protections on because she has such an extreme allergic reaction. Her eyes swell shut and she may have had difficulty breathing. She also cried when it touched her skin.
More often than not I've seen issues with overdosing as the main culprit but there are definately dogs out there who simply can't have the stuff on them. The only thing I can use for her is Program which we keep her on year round and seems to do an ok job.
Michael,
Does he have any other reactions to it, such as what the previous posters suggested they've run into? If not, maybe he's just a little freaked by the cooling sensation of the alcohol carrier evaporating.
For me I hate the stuff, I note a decrease in energy in the dog the next day after it's applied.
If my dog isn't learning, I'm doing something wrong.

thanks so much everyone. Shambo has no other reaction, like redness, etc. I just ordered the Neem Oil spray from Ed -- are there other products to substitute for frontline?
Let me say -- I live in Columbia County, NY which has the highest incedence of lyme disease in the nation. So I have to do something that is pretty effective.
