I just got an order from Leerburg, and they included a sample of Joint Aid 4 Dogs. Is this something that my 8 month old pup should be started on? Or is this just something I may want to add to his diet after he's older? I noticed that the first 3 ingredients are oats, beet pulp, and molasses. It also contains yeast extract. I'm assuming the ingredients that help joints are the chondroitin, and glucosamine? I'm not sure about the other ingredients (Glutamine, MSM, curcumin). I thought yeast was something we should avoid b/c of possibly contributing to yeast infections in dogs (ears and such?) Forgive my ignorance, but I'm still very new on the nutritional pros/cons of different ingredients. I'm careful about his diet, but this supplement and it's ingredients are pretty new to me.
Kodee eats an all-natural grain-free diet now. I don't mind him having oats or beet pulp, etc in small amounts, (like in this supplement), but is this stuff better than the capsules that are just the glucosamine and chondroitin?
I forgot to mention that he's already on salmon oil and Vit E daily, if that makes any difference...
Yes, I have a question too along this same line. My dogs are small, but I wonder if I should be giving them something for their joints, since that are incredibily active and one day we will be doing agility. They are both about 20 lbs. Terrior mixes. Your input appreciated. I also have to watch grains with cody, he gets a rash. So he is on Raw diet with supplements, fish oil and vitamin e, as is my other dog Bindi. I am leary of yeast too. So, thanks for asking the question Kori.
God bless you

The joint repair supplements so far have not proven to be of benefit to young dogs who have not shown signs of disrepair.
I start my dogs on the glusomamine-type supplements at late middle age, or if x-rays show OA changes, or if the dog seems to exhibit OA symptoms, whether or not I have had x-rays done yet.
Salmon oil and E are always beneficial at every age as inflammation regulators.
