A friends dog requires Desmopressin Acetate. This is a med prescried to people with diabetes. The local pharmacy is going to charge me $110 per week for this med.
I am not finding any on line pet sources that have this med.
Suggestions?

One fellow in this article found a local pharmacy who would do componding for him for a lot less money. Compounding pharmacies are fewer and fewer but you may find one near a hospital (hint - it won't be part of a chain)
There are links within the link - sounds like it may be cheaper to go injectable.

Compounding pharmacies are a great resource for expensive or essential back-ordered/out-of-stock medications. Just requires a phone call or written RX from your vet. In some, if not all, cases they can be delivered to your door.
I really don't know too much about what's going on with this dog. the guy I work with came into work yesterday evening a little dissheveled and upset about the whole ordeal. He has no idea how he'll pay for the med or how he can justify such an expense with all of his other obligations. Maybe this will help him with an affordable option.
He did say the vet mentioned something about a tumor on the pituitary gland.
I'll make sure he sees this discussion.

Compounding pharmacies are a great idea but also check prices at all nearby pharmacies, they can vary greatly. Also check the local Sam's or Costo if you have one near. They can be quite a bit cheaper and you do not have to be a member to use their pharmacies.

Costco is a good place to get meds filled. I don't think they do compounding but they can often fill a prescription that you'd normally get from the vet's office...for less. Just ask your vet's office to call the RX in or give you a written RX to take with you.
Vets markup most medications about 200-300%
