Cheyenne (GSD)will be 5 months old next week. When we got her at 12 weeks both ears were up but then fell and started coming back up two weeks ago. Her ear on the left, the last 1" is still flopping and not standing, Right ear is up all the way. Should I be doing anything to help her?
Our GSD at 4.5 months had his ears both standing also, and one went down about 2 weeks later. The article Ed had written as stated above was encouraging, as I remember him saying that if both ears were up at one time that he had not seen ears Not come up in that case.. I also talked to our Breeder who encouraged lots of recreational bones (real uncooked large bones,I took off all of the fat so it was only a bit of flesh and marrow) it seemed like it was forever, but Kane is now 7 months and his ears came up last week, so hopefully that is encouraging!!
My boy is 5 mnths old and his right ear is still weak at the tio but I am going with a wait and see approach. The breeder has never had soft ears in the past so I think he will have good ears. Truely as long as he has a good mind I will be happy.
My pup is 9 weeks. I got him about a week ago and both of his ears were a little floppy. They have been standing straight up for the past 4 days and have not flopped down at all.
Once they are up, do they stay up? Or will the possibly flop again? The food I'm feeding (Orijen) has glucosamine and chondrotin in it, which helps build cartilage. Could this be part of it? I can't imagine a week worth of it would help, although when I injured 2 discs in my neck, that stuff started working after a couple of days.
It's amazing how fast glucosamine with chondrotin works, isn't it? I use it for myself too.
John, even if your pup's ears flop a bit later, I wouldn't worry about it. They might still do the antenna/radar thing, that trying to catch a signal look. Then soon afterwards go right back up again. You might want to check the link I gave above http://www.leerburg.com/tapingears.htm so you get a good idea of a timeline.
I wouldn't worry about the tips not going up yet. I got one of my GSDs when he was close to a year old and the tips of his ears flopped. After a while one went all the way up and then the other. Here is a picture of what he looked like when I first got him: Milo
