Though I do not make mine that way, and that one should be wider. Springpoles are used as heavy duty tug of war for exercising a dog and strengthening the back and abdomen and legs. Some people allow their dogs to hang from it but I don't as there is a small chance of injury, and I do not allow my dogs to run and jump for it. I have it just high enough off the ground that they have a firm purchase on the ground with their hind feet. They do require training and conditioning for proper, safe use. But they are great for dogs that love to tug.
