I too, was referring to the pager button on the Dogtra collars.
Lee, I see more of a reaction to the pager button according to tempermanent of the dog. Reactive vs active, with more of a reaction being from a environmentaly sensitive, soft tempermanented dog, not involved in prey drive.
Mine is a Tri Tronics. Its just a tone - no vibration. Does that make a difference? Can it still be affective if used like a light stimulation? Or maybe like a negative voice marker "NO"?
Hi Robert,
I have a Tritronics e-collar with just a tone also. Based on Roni and Lee's posts, I suspect there's a difference between how a dog perceives and reacts to a tone vs. a vibrating pager. The dog feels the vibration, and some dogs find the sensation mildly unpleasant or startling, as Roni described, or it's like a pop on an invisible leash to get the dog refocused like Lee said. On the other hand, the dog hears the tone, which not startling or unpleasant, and (at least in my experience) can be trained to respond to it in the same way as a verbal command. My suggestion would still be to decide what you want the tone to mean to your dog (praise, warning, or...?) and then work on getting the association clear in the dog's mind.
