Maybe mine has some rust spots on it because I got it from Petsmart =)
Really? I've never seen a prong collar of any brand sold at Petsmart. Goes against their in-store "training" methods. Sure have a wall full of halties, though.
A local pet supply store does carry the "made in Neverland" brands, and boy are they junk. I would never trust them. Only Sprenger for me.
Off topic, sorry.
Well, I actually got it from the store I used to work at (employee discount, yeehaw!) but since it's basically a clone of Petsmart and nobody's ever heard of my store (it's a local thing)... definitely going to spring for a HS prong in the future, in a smaller size! The one I've got now is too big.
I have a HermSprenger prong that is chrome and I like it. The problem I have with it is that I bought a smaller one, and then 2 packages of extra links so the collar would have more teeth. Well, the extra links are a "hair" bigger than the links that originally came with the collar (yes they were labelled the same size), so I have to be really careful when I open the collar because if I remove the wrong link (a big link out of a smaller one) it is extremely tough for my girly hands to put back together. Not good when you are trying to get your hyper dog to stop wiggling long enough so you can get it on.
My pet smart has them as well. To answer the question regarding look. The HS Stainless Steel is a but smoky compared to chrome yet does not tarnish and more importantly, does not effect the skin and coat of dogs who have reactions to Steel. I too have bought the pet smart collar and the difference is that the plating in inferior with the lesser priced collar where the HS finish is GUARANTEED FOR LIFE, a little known fact. Also, the stainless HS is not available in the quick clasp, it has the same clasp as a leash would.
I got mine at Petsmart as well and it turns my dogs neck black. I was told to order a stainless. So which is it? She also gets her neck irritated easily as she has no undercoat. I also read that the stainless is good for pets with allergies or problems with metal? I put her through pet smart training all the way to advanced. I just started her at the "Dunes dog Training club" and they tested her right into the beginner class. Some training , petsmart cost 40 dollars more too!
