Here's my problem.
1. How much will it effect the training if interupted by 14 days of no training. This is first time trying to raise pup not being at home everyday.
Well Butch, as you know I'm no Pro but I would think that 14 days with no training is impossable, even if your wife puts little Butch in the crate at night and keeps his little mind occupied with toys and the backyard, learning house manners and walking on leash. He is getting training. See where I am going?

Yes, I guess I'll have to get her to start watching the Training video's, I keep telling her that a dog is easier to train then the children she teaches.(bad subject with her)
Maybe I won't go back to work. That will solve the training concern.
It won't be a little Butch but a little bitch.
Don't know why I'm concerned, haven't got the pup yet.
Well nothing wrong with planning ahead Butch! But don't be concerned man, I personally would hang around from the 8th week until the 13-14 week for bonding reasons and to catch the "Magic" time of learning.

When I got my pup I took a month off of work, to bond. Everyone thought I was nuts. But that month was great. We didn't really do any training, but focused on housebreaking, learning his routines, his temperament, crate introduction, a bit of leash walking and playing. Nothing too heavy, but just enough that he learned that following me and listening is great. It was all very subtle, but I guess it's still training.
Play training is still training. The dog would be getting socialized, and learning manners. A 2 week deal shouldn't be that big of a problem. I am sure everyone on this board has had a two week time period when 'life' got in the way. Pick up where you left off and move on. I think if the pup has been played with you will see there has been no dropoff in drive or attitude. Maybe even a little more attitude since I am sure your wife isn't as strict as you!!!
Well I just might try to find a older started pup, or Titled female. The search never stops.
Thanks to all.
