I am not opposed to buying an adult dog. I kind of wanted the experience of raising a working dog and learning as the dog learns. I know that there are risks that a puppy that started out looking like a good prospect may not make it. I am planning on doing a lot of research into the breeder and dogs and hopefully, that will help in the end and I will get what I am looking for. I am sure I will be on this board asking all kinds of questions both before I find a dog and after I get him or her.

I do think she has a lot of prey drive. She will catch my cat and "stand" over her. She doesn't do anything to her but has a dominate stand right over her.
Hi Barbara,
Sounds like you have a great little pup.
This part jumped out at me though. I have a Mal that is a cat killer and I think this exact statement is where I made my mistake. ALL of my other dogs as puppies would do this and they got used to the cats and vice versa, but with Jesea and her prey drive she turned form doing this to killing one of my outdoor cats at 7 mos old.
She never tore them up, but she would catch them, carry them and then drop them. If the cat stayed still she would just watch them, but if the cat moved she would grab them again.
I had to introduce the e-collar and to this day she will still go after a cat without the e-collar.
Just wanted to share that, as when they are pups it is cute to watch, but as they get older it can turn from a game into actual prey killing.
Not saying that will happen, but I want to put it out there.....I did not think Jesea would end up killing them either.

Unfortunately with Jesea I used the e-collar incorrectly and now I always will have to use it I think.
With Little Ember, who would love to get at the cats, I do A LOT of redirecting back to me for fun stuff. She is much better and does not give chase or throw tantrums over not being able to chase the cats any longer, but she will revert back to wanting to chase once in awhile.
I am looking forward to working with Roni on the e-collar method she uses to help with this, but right now it is
"Heir Ember, I am way more fun than those stupid cats"
and I do say "nein (NO) to her when she starts to stare or go their way.
