Exactlly what I've seen- I start walking in the opposite direction and he'll go into a perfect heel. Then when we switch back he goes in front a bit. I'll repeat it several times, but he seems to know where we are eventually going.
He's much better with the prong. But does get excited with noises or new areas. We walk downtown and it's a lot going on. Thinking I might vary it to quieter streets so he's not so distracted.
I can't count the number of corrections I gave him in a 45 min walk this am though. You think he'd get tired of it.
I have a lot of this problem with Pache'......and it dawned on me finally that if I'm having to correct him so much the problem is with ME. I am not being clear in communicating what I want from him. That and I'm correcting before he knows the exercise which is really unfair. (I wish I wasn't so dense!!!)
It just seems like if I teach the behavior with rewards and marking and make sure he actually Knows what I want, then I need to work him through distractions with rewarding what I want and THEN I can correct for not listening......which may not even happen much. Ed is right on about the phases of learning.........I just have so many old bad training habits using Koehler/compulsion that I skip the vital stuff and go right to the proofing stage.
I am the one who needs the training......my dogs are just fine!

Veeda walks in front still. Just that she doesn´t pull anymore. I usually don´t want her to do formal heeling on the street- we have so called street heeling that doesn´t require perfect position very close and eye contact. But I don´t want her to do neither most of the time during walks- I walk her not that I could walk, I do it so she could walk and sniff around a bit. I haven´t used a prong because I know several dobies that know exactly how to behave when the prong is on but are terribly behaved without it and I didn´t want this to happen (though when I am away and my sister walks Veeda, she uses a prong). I don´t see her walking in front as a real problem as long as she pays attention to where I go and doesn´t pull.
