True normally gets probiotics every day in the form of yogurt/kefir and powder. He's on 2 different antibiotics right now and will be on them for 21 days. The antibiotics are given twice a day at meals. I feel he needs probios now, more than ever, but I'm afraid of compromising the antibiotic therapy if I give it to him. Should I hold off on probios until he's finished with the antibiotics? If not, do I need to wait a certain number of hours? Would giving probios mid-day, between the antibiotic doses, be Ok? The probiotics don't interfere with the antibiotics. They just help replenish all of the good bacteria the antibiotics inadvertently killed.

I second that - the last time Oscar was on antibiotics (for the root canal) the doc told me it was fine to keep up with yogurt, it shouldn't interfere. ~Natalya

Thanks in advance What are the antibiotics? There are some that are calcium chelators. So post back, because although on people RXs it always has a little warning "no dairy" label, it may be that dog drugs don't. Regardless, they are commonly known, so post back. And yes, even if one of them IS a calcium chelator, you can give the yogurt in between (two hours after the last dose and two hours before the next one). I do indeed give probiotics (and prebiotics) during the regimen as well as after.

Would the powdered probiotic form (assuming it doesn't contain dairy) hypothetically be okay to give at the same time as the antibiotics? just not the yogurt or kefir? Edited to add: I have no idea whether or not powdered probiotics contain dairy or not (or how you would tell), though I suppose they have to be cultured in something.
