In my fantasy land there is "breeder-school", only it's a four year course instead of eight; but instead of a competencey test there's an internship .
Okay, it's a little funny, but part of me really wishes there were such a thing. I've seen so many terrible things (as have many on this board, I suspect) that it's made me really cynical. The idea of producing healthy, stable animals is a responsibility I take to heart to such a degree, and it's so important to me that I can't take a casual view. I love dogs, and I take my responsibility to do right by them pretty seriously. I approach breeding from that perspective too: one of deep respect. I realize that I tend to be opinionated, but in general I love dogs more than I care about peoples' opinions of me personally.
I think it's great that you asked for opinions and ideas instead of just going through with it. Many people don't. I just don't think breeding is to be entered into lightly.
