I have a 9 1/2 week old GS puppy that has a VERY high level of energy. I'm taking him out several times a day based on the good advice from this Board.
QUESTION: In addition to tugs, ball on string, etc., etc., I'm taking on him walks with a flexi leash several times a day. Is there a danger in going too far at this age (affecting joints later) or do you think its's OK to go until he poops out?? We do not go fast and I let him sniff, but essentially keep up with me.
Yes, you can overdo it with a pup. If he's pooped before you return home, you've gone too far. Try to get back home while he still has some gas in the tank, then expend that playing in the yard til he's ready to nap again.
Thanks for the advise. We've taken three pretty healthy walks today and he has been on "go" the entire time. I have been working with him on sit, down and come. Wow - he's doing it! I'm using some treats which sure get his attention.
Also, your advise earlier about more exercise is working! This guy has been much less hyper inside after doing the walks.
