I am considering attending Triple Crown Academy in July. I would love to chat with some of their former grads before I commit. I have contacted the company twice and asked for a referral list. Haven't heard anything back from them yet. Does anyone here know of any Triple Crown Graduates that I might be able to talk to before I commit to their school? If so, please e mail me at coinralph@verizon.net. Thanks a bunch.
Hey there. I sent you an e-mail as well; I just got back from doing the 4 month course there.
The '08 WUSV Schutzhund Nationals are being held at Triple Crown this weekend so they're probably crazed and I would imagine that might slow down their response time getting back to you.
I'm probably not going to be too eloquent for awhile. It was an exhausting experience and then there was the road trip home with an extra dog (!!! !!!), a Border Collie who Carbon still isn't all that fond of.
What I will say is that it was wonderful to see first hand what amazing trainers Rob Dunn and Jessy Gabriel are...I hope I manage to retain a bit of the massive amount of education they tried to stuff into our brains.
I think out of all of it I most enjoyed the narcotics detection training with Rob; it really grabbed me and Carbon loved the hell out of it. It was kind of surprising to me...I didn't know I would enjoy it that much.
It was a crazy experience. It was fantastic but also stressful beyond anything I would have expected. Quite a few people didn't make it out of the first 8 weeks alone. Weeding out the weak, I guess.
Oh, and Carbon had his first (and hopefully only) encounter with a rattlesnake. Thank God it was at night and a little chilly because despite how good Carbon's reflexes are I'm pretty sure a snake's is better. It scared the crap out of me...it was a really close call and a HUGE snake and man, those guys rattle a lot louder than I would have thought! My knees didn't stop knocking for an hour or so. Carbon thought the whole experience was pretty cool, though...dumb dog.
I'll miss a lot about Texas, but I won't miss all of the many things that can kill you while working your dog.
I enjoyed the narcotics as well, but protection was my favorite by far. All of it made me really want to train police dogs, though that will likely never happen for me. I thought I had an "in" with a cop in the town I used to live in. He wanted to train dogs also (he was a K9 handler) and was going to open a training center and we were going to work together. Well, it just never happened. He was all talk and no action. So disappointing. So I've had to satisfy myself with pet dog training and finally moved to an area with active schutzhund clubs so I can at least get into some sport training :-)
