When we go for walks we keep Max by our sides, so he walks beside and not in front. Usually his neck is level with our leg.
While we walk, quite often he will turn and touch our leg with his nose. If there are 2 of us - one each side - he will touch both of us.
It's very cute and we've come up with several reasons why we think he might do it - but they are human reasoning.
E.G maybe he does it to check he's not too far in front, or to show us he likes going on walks, or maybe he's doing some kind of physical bonding ritual.
Does anyone know a 'dog' reason he might do this?
I really hope it's not some kind of dominance thing or other 'negative' behaviour because we quite like it.
Though I do worry sometimes that he might get a knee in the head as we walk.
I have had several pups that will push their nose into my hand during a greeting (a nose bump). I think it is a very friendly gesture, never dominant.
It sounds like your boy is using touch in a good way and not at all dominant.
Usually when my dogs give me a nose bump it is an invitation to play or they want to be petted. To me, it means they enjoy interacting with you. Sounds like your guy likes walking with you both!
We were wondering the same thing. We have only had our 9 month old GSD for a week and a half and she does the exact same thing. We thought she was trying to herd us (but that's human thinking)
