To "share" a toy? Not at the same time however,,,,,I would like to see if my Boston likes a toy I just bought for my Frenchie. The Frenchie loves the new toy. She is only allowed to have it in her crate, and he has never had access to it. Just wanna see if he likes it enough for me to buy another one. Or should I just get another one

There should be no problems as long as you don't have both the dogs out when you see if your boston likes the toy. Have the frenchie in her kennel and in another room see if your boston likes the toy.

Mine share, too, and I have noticed that they especially love to get hand-me-down toys that have spit and drool on them from my granddogs. I think that the added aromas are exciting and interesting -- at least to my dogs.
To anyone new to the thread: This is NOT talking about dogs sharing toys together, but one dog now enjoying a toy that the other one already played with. With the handler.
Our two will share, although Maverick doesn't seem to get the idea behind playing. If we throw a ball, they both chase it, and Sasha WILL get there first. IF for some reason he gets it, he'll drop it for her and she'll bring it back.
If we throw a tug across the room for just him (When Sasha isn't around) He'll run off, 'tag' it, and come back. Unfortunately he can't figure out that if he doesn't bring it with him I can't throw it again.
But stuffies, wow. They'll each lay down to shred one, then after a while switch. Once they realized no-one is getting anything better than the other, they share just fine.

If you teach each part of "fetch" separately before you put the whole thing together (chaining and back-chaining), you will be amazed.
So the "give" part can be taught even while you sit on the couch.
