I have a rottie pup whelped 09Sept. Unfortunately (or fortunately...!) he's a singleton litter, and has high rank drive. He is fine with humans, hand in bowl, not a problem - removing objects from mouth, not a problem.
He gets extremely nasty towards his parents if they approach his xpen while he has possession of a chewie. Basicly, I can hear Satan coming out of the xpen. I removed the object, and all is well.
His dam plays quite well with him, offering him a rope to play tug o war with her, and she exercises a great deal of care when interacting with her boy. The sire is amazing with puppies, but we really haven't let them play yet, as the size difference and the possiblity of an accident is all too big.
I took him to play with a litter of puppies (two at a time)last week, and he had no idea how to interact with them. He snarled at a couple of them, sat on one of them, and tried to escape the pen the remainder of the time, while in avoidance mode. He was more interested in the older dogs outside the pen, than the leetle dogs inside the pen. Understandable.
I have tried some subtle dominance exercises with him (worked wonders on his sire as a pup), but can't get the baby barracuda to hold still for more than 7-10 seconds, the teeth come out and he acts like he's in a torture chamber!!
Any suggestions on how to approach this in a positive manner are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
