I use an orbee on a string or a kong wubba for tugging and my dog will target the string or fabric part of the wubba when I am moving the tug. She will reposition onto the ball part (with a little assistance form me) once she has it. How do I fix this?
Younger dogs suck at targeting, they figure it out eventually.
With an older dog, you have to be quick and move the ball in such a way that the dog gets the ball and the string is not so accessible. Takes practice and you gotta be quick!
Sasha used to do this, now she'll target the ball part. If I'm holding a rope tug horozonally, she'll target the middle, then work to the end before giving it hell!
I think it's an aiming/coordination thing with younger dogs. But I could be wrong!
