argh! This puppy stuff is wearing me out!
Now my formerly wild man is SLEEPING all day. He is happy to get up and go for walks, but is not his usual get up and go-go-go self. He has had all his shots, eats plenty, etc.
He is not even chasing his toys! What's up? Is this possibly a growing phase? He is 14 or 15 weeks now, I think.
He follows me around and when I stop, he flops at my feet and sleeps.
Please don't tell me this is my true dog. I was thinking I had a real prospect going on! I am afraid I did this to him. All my past dogs have turned out to be, well, melancholy types. Is he assuming my personality?
Nah, he is probably just growing which takes a lot of energy! At this age they are usually sleeping, going like heck or chewing. Savour the quiet time - it won't last.
How long have you noticed this change in activity?? How long ago was his last vaccination and what was given? Have you taken his temperature?
The first thing that comes to mind is maybe some type of vaccine reaction. Of course, some people have accused me of being overly paranoid about vaccinations..... (you know who you are!)
It's also possible at this age that he may be starting to teethe. Some pups are unaffected by this but I have had some that lose drive, mope around and have a temporary personality change.
How is the injury to the eye healing? Maybe something to do with that. My pup did mope around when he was teething but he would still go after the ball, teeth falling out and everything. I hope your pups eye is better...

It could be a lot of things. Growth, vaccines, eye injury, etc. Anything else that you have noticed?

I also vote for vaccine reaction..
We are trying to get Jean Dodds here this summer to do a seminar.. I have been to a couple before .. very informative.. oops.. sorta off topic.. sorry.
Hmmm. Last vaccine was last Wednesday, the 6th. (rabies). The eye healed splendidly, I must say. Only a tiny white scar will be visible on his eyelid. The vet remarked, with great sadness, that it would probably preclude an AKC show career...like that's a concern for me. I am darn glad he can see for schutzhund!
I thought one of his big baby teeth (canine?) looked chipped the other day-maybe it's time for them to go. He is crying a lot more at night also.
He will still get worked up when he wants my bitch to play with him, but not so eager to play fetch or tug.
hmmm. maybe you guys are onto something-is 14-15 weeks teething time?
Hey all-
thanks for the advice and suggestions-I think I am swinging with the "paranoid" folks who voted for vaccine reaction. Puppy is back to play play play, bark bark bark, gobble food, cry cry cry. (and of course, pee pee pee)
I am tired. This is my last puppy.
