Bliskan is doing well. Tail looks a little redder tonight. I realize he just had major surgery and is going to take some time to heal but I am always very worried when anything happens to my dogs.
I took the e collar off and think he messed with it some today also threw up his breakfast but ate it up so don't know what it was.Post back on him tomorrow.

Do you feel heat where it's redder?
I'd watch the stomach issues very carefully. The gastric side effects of Cephalexin (like loss of appetite, vomiting, and diarrhea) are rare. So I would report the vomiting to the vet just in case it's a reaction to the NSAID (the Deramaxx).
mitch,i would keep the e-collar on, or he WILL mess with the wound. but i REALLY like the "donut collars", he may tolerate one of those better.
with connie--is the "redder" part hot? this could indicate infection setting in. check with your vet....and GOOD LUCK!! he'll just be able to whip his rear end around at 200 mph like my dobie (and not knock over everything at 28" high)

There you are, Ann! I was wondering!
And back to Mitch's dog.
Mitch, there are also soft e-collars. Even a t-shirt can work to keep his mouth off the wound. But I wouldn't let him fool with it. You want the inflammation to be reduced, and you definitely don't want an infection.
Been 10 days and he busted it wide open. almost seems like it feels better letting everything out. Is about a quater inch deep and almost the whole width of his tail. Do I need to take him back in or can I just keep it clean a heal on it's own. Don't really want to put him threw any more surgery if it can be helped

Ouch!
I don't know...that sounds like a large opening but usually stitches only stay in 10-14 days anyway.
I'd call the vet and see what he says. They may just want to check that it is mostly healed and sometimes they can use skin staples which don't require anesthesia and suturing. But I'd call just to be on the safe side.

oh mitch, w/o being there, get him to the vet tomorrow and consult as to the best strategy from here.
theoretically, you could just keep it clean, etc., but like i said--not being there, best bet--take him on in. might not take any more than a local, restitch..who knows??
