I'd like to pay tribute to my recently passed best friend....
My wife and I were married in Sept of 2005. In October of 2005 we got Titus, a reverse brindle Boxer male. He was of course treated like our child and given every toy and all the love that we had.
At six months old, May 2006, he started to develop head tremors and went into a state of paralysis, but it only lasted a week or so. The doctors at the vet said it was something major and that we should have him put down. He got through it on his own and acted like a normal pup from there on out.
In May 2007, he developed similar symptoms from the previous year and a different vet put him on a dose of double antibiotics and he turned around in a days time.
Then in May 2008, he got sick again, this time it got the best of him and he had a seizure and he was paralyised for about three days and in a great deal of pain before we decided to help ease his pain.
Titus may have only lived two and a half years, but in that time he went on thousands of car rides, he'd been to almost every beach on the Jersey Shore and to Pennsylvania and South Carolina on numerous trips. He had a female boxer companion, Persie, who was only six months younger from the same parents and the two of them were inseperable. His brother, Tyson, from the same litter lived one block away and they saw each other on a weekly basis.
I wouldn't have traded Titus for anything and although I would give anything to have him back, I understand he is no longer in pain and he really lived a full life compared to most other dogs.
This post is a tribute to my lost friend. He will forever have a place in my heart and will missed more than words can describe.
The Vet said that they believe he suffered from a neurological condition and that the timing was merely a coincidence. He got his shots in October of every year so we really didn't attribute that to it. We didn't put him on Frontline because we were concerned that that may have caused it the first time. I've read about a few conditions that boxers suffer all of which shared symptoms, but honestly I don't think we'll ever know. I'm okay with that honestly, I'd like to know but I know that all the tests and nights away from home that it would have taken to attempt to determine what it was (before we could even try and address the issue), would have been too much for him. He loved being around us and he was an active dog, being stuck in a crate while be poked and prodded would have broken his spirit and my heart.
William, sorry to hear about Titus. When I read about this stuff, it really makes me dread the day. I'm not sure how I'll be able to take it. RIP Titus.

I want to take it the way William is. I want to remember that my dog was a blessing in my life just as I was in his, and how grateful I am for that.
And I know how grateful I am that we have that incredible gift of the painless passing by our side -- that we don't have to make our friend struggle on in misery.
I even want to remember that it would be terrible if our dogs usually outlived us and were left with no more home when we died.
It's pretty darned hard, though, when the time actually comes, to keep those things in mind.
I am so sorry to hear about your loss. My sincerest condolences go out to you and your family. I lost my most recent prospect at 12 weeks to vaccinial distemper this past October. It is so hard to let our babies go, especially at a young age with so much life they will never get to experience.
Very sorry to hear of your loss. We lost our 6 year old boxer Stella almost a year ago to cancer that came on very quickly. It was the hardest thing we have ever gone through.
Just always remember how much love Titus gave you and you him. You can't replace him, but going through this you will appreciate more how special our dogs are and your relationships with them will be even better.
We have Luna now, a 9 month old white boxer girl and she is helping to fill that void in our hearts.
