My grandmother called to tell me that a REALLY strong gust of wind took down a car-port in our yard, and that in turn took down part of our fence. The worst part? Our husky mix got out, and was next door under my grandpa's trailer. Keep in mind, this is the house with the 4 dogs that constantly harass and fence-fight/run with my dogs. Sasha, being a good girl, went in the house and fell asleep.
I work 1/2 hour from home, so needless to say I'm stressing the whole way. Especially when I get another call saying, 'oh, by the way. All 4 dogs attacked Maverick, and now he's hiding under the house and we don't know how bad he's hurt'. Great. Then, we're informed that 2 of the other dogs were slightly injured, so I'm freaking out about how bad he's hurt, and how much of a vet bill I'm going to have.
We get there, leash in hand, and coax him out from under the house. Unbelievably, he's un-hurt!! I guess that double coat came in handy. My not-too bright boy stood up to the other four dogs, and didn't get hurt himself. But managed to get in a good bite on one of them, and leave the other one limping.
Maverick limped a little, but I think he just twisted something, because within a few hours he was fine.
Talk about a close-call!! But I'll bet those dogs stop fence-fighting him now!
Fortunately, no, no other traumas. Everyone seems to be fine, including the other dogs next door. The one is still limping, but as they often fight amonst themselves, I can't be sure it was even Maverick's fault. The owner doesn't care, so I don't have to worry about arguements there. My opinion is that if he wants his dogs to stay safe, he shouldn't let them run the desert freely. Mine are securely contained at all times. Unless, of course, a building falls on the fence and takes it down!
I could get a 2nd kennel and start kenneling them, however I work 10 hour days and work about 35-40 minutes from home. I can't kennel them that long.
